After taking early retirement from admin work, moving counties and downsizing in 2019, the obvious question for Dot was ‘What’s next?’
Lockdown came and went before Dot began to think about writing books for children, and as a Christian, she prayed for guidance. “There were certainly ‘stepping stones’ leading towards creating kids’ books,” says Dot, “but for me, a big clincher came when our son, Richard, sent a 'random', out of the blue short WhatsApp video. His wife, Abby was reading to their young son and Richard just wanted to let Dot know that he remembered a story she wrote for him about pylons, and one for his twin sister Lucy about a lazy lion, and how much he enjoyed and appreciated it all those years ago. That set the ball rolling."
Since her twins were born, Dot has been involved in children’s work, from babies to teens, including running a church club for 7 – 11 year-olds. Now she enjoys helping out with her grandchildren.
Dot lives with her husband Owen and they have grown up twins. Son Richard is married to Abby, and daughter Lucy is married to Gareth. There are currently four grandchildren between them.
Dot will donate all proceedings from Cam's Crombly Christmas to Open Doors (opendoorsuk.org), a charity serving persecuted Christians in over 70 countries.
